There are drum machines and electronic drum sets. Somewhere in between is the Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Pad. It’s more like a miniature electronic drum set than anything else. I decided to check this electronic drums up as my portable practice drum kit that I can easily carry anywhere I would go. There was no way that I was about to pick up a full 5 piece set of drums, but I didn’t want to settle for a small drum machine either. The Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Pad, seemed to be the perfect cross between the two.

Lightweight and Portable
Having lugged around drum sets for quite a few years, I know what a hassle it can be. The Yamaha drum pad is nice because it only weighs about 20 lbs and is just the right size to fit snugly in any standard snare stand. This is not a drum set that you’re going to go out and play an arena, or even a small club gig with, but it is great for learning to play drums for beginner, and is even good for experienced drummers to practice on. I’ve become the life of a few parties and get-togethers with this portable electronic drum set.

Fun for Practice and Parties
Like I mentioned, this is not a drum set that you are going to play at a gig. It is great for practicing or having a set to take out for impromptu jam sessions with friends. I really am not impressed with the built in speakers. They don’t pack much power and don’t sound great. They’ll do in a pinch, but you’re better off plugging into an amp or some more powerful speakers to get impressive volume levels and sounds.
The Yamaha DD65 Digital Drum Pad is a great practice set and would be perfect for a younger percussion student who is just getting started with learning to play drums.
